Yum! Brands Inc. operate a system of over 53,000 restaurants globally, including well-known brands such as KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell. Yum! has recently embarked on a project to move their global supply network from second party to third party audits, as they build the infrastructure to streamline and improve supplier quality for sustainable long-term results for their restaurants around the world. BRCGS Food Safety and START! certification will be one of the GFSI-recognised third party audit programmes that they will specify from their suppliers from 2025, along with Global Standard Storage and Distribution, and Global Standard Packaging Materials where applicable.
Global supply chains such as that used for Yum! Brands are complex, and span multiple countries and continents. Many factors can lead to vulnerabilities in the supply chain, which has led to an increasing need for reassurance of product quality being sought by specifiers, brands, retailers and consumers.
The BRCGS Global Standard Food Safety is the world-leading GFSI-recognised food safety programme. It has set the benchmark for nearly 25 years and it is the most widely accepted. Adopted by over 22,000 sites in more than 130 countries, the standard is accepted by 70% of the top 10 global retailers, 60% of the top 10 quick-service restaurants, and 50% of the top 25 manufacturers.
BRCGS is excited by this opportunity and is looking forward to working with Yum! suppliers around the globe on their journey to certification.
