Gordon has over 35 years of experience in food manufacturing, food safety and auditing in both the private and public sector and is currently the President and CEO of The FACTS Group, based in Toronto, Canada.

Gordon has extensive knowledge of the food industry worldwide, has worked in auditing/certification since 1988, was involved in the development of the EFSIS Standard (a pre-cursor to the BRC Food Standard), was the first BRC Standard Auditor, and has subsequently audited all sectors covered by the BRCGS food standard. Gordon was also one of the first training providers approved by the BRCGS.

In addition to being a graduate Food Technologist, Gordon has 2 masters degrees; a MSc. in Food Safety and Control and an LLM. in Food Law.

He also has additional qualifications and training in HACCP, Auditing, Food Defense and a variety of ISO standards, including ISO 9000 and ISO 22000. He is also a lead instructor for the Food Safety Preventative Controls Alliance “Preventative Controls Qualified Individuals” course.

Gordon has published and presented his research worldwide and was previously a Senior Lecturer (Professor) at The University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (UWIC), where he taught both undergraduates and postgraduates in the fields of food science and technology, environmental health and trading standards. He is passionate about education and was one of the initial principle ATPs involved in the roll out of the BRCGS Food Standard training.

Gordon has several affiliations including being a Fellow of the Institute of Food Science and Technology and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, which recognises teaching excellence.

In addition to leading the companies he has worked with to the highest grades and to industry awards, has been personally recognized by being awarded:

  • 2012 International Association for Food Protection (IAFP) “Harold Barnum Industry Award”
  • 2013 United States Department of Defence “Senior Warrant Officer - Coin of Excellence”
  • 2016 BRCGS Trainer/Consultant of the Year Award, (1st ever global recipient of this award)
  • 2018 NSF Canada “Food Industry Leadership Award
